How it works
From link or keywords to a saved file — in a few clicks.
This page explains the full workflow of Online Video Downloader: search or paste a link, pick quality, then download to your preferred folder.
The web tool can connect to the Windows app when it’s running (you may see a browser permission prompt the first time — that’s expected).
Workflow overview
- Open the desktop app so it can handle downloads and conversions.
- On this website, open /app and connect to the running app.
- Search by keywords or paste a URL.
- Choose a format/quality and click Download.
- Track progress and open the output folder when finished.
Browser connection
When you use the web tool, your browser talks to the desktop app through localhost (your own device). This keeps the heavy work on your PC.
- If the browser asks for permission to connect to a local application/network, accept it to enable the bridge.
- If the app is closed, the web tool will show a “not connected” status until you reopen the app.
- No account is required — the connection is session-based.
Quality & formats
The available formats depend on the source. In general:
- Video + audio is easiest for playback.
- Best video + best audio can be merged into a single file when supported.
- Audio-only exports are available for compatible sources.
If an item has missing metadata temporarily (like duration), try refresh — the app will enrich details as data becomes available.
